Council Member Costa Constantinides is looking to upgrade an East Elmhurst playground in the future.
Constantinides wants to find a way to provide funding for renovations at Gorman Playground, which is located on 30th Avenue between 84th Street and 85th Street.
“Next year I want to have a deeper discussion with you guys relating to Gorman Playground,” Constantinides said at a Community Board 3 meeting Tuesday night. “I want your visions on what you see there.”
“If that goes beyond Participatory Budgeting money, I think we should have a separate discussion on funding projects in Jackson Heights and East Elmhurst,” he added.
Constantinides announced the winners of this year’s Participatory Budgeting process, which allows residents to vote on how to spend capital funding, earlier this week. Two of the winning projects included upgrades to Bulova Park, located at 25th Avenue and 76th Street.
The first project will fund the upgrade of the fitness equipment at the park, which will cost $250,000. The second project will repair the handball courts in the park, which will cost $150,000.
That park features basketball and handball courts, as well as spray showers, fitness equipment and a children’s playground, according to the Parks Department website.
