A Jackson Heights man died of injuries he sustained after a group of men viciously beat him at a neighborhood intersection on Sunday morning, according to police.

Sources familiar with the incident indicated the assault may have been “gay-related” and an investigation is underway to determine if it was a bias crime.

Police said the victim — 43-year-old Hector Anzures of 75th Street — was found unconscious and unresponsive when the 115th Precinct responded to a 911 call at the corner of Roosevelt Avenue and 81st Street at 2:50 a.m.

Moments earlier, according to authorities, Anzures was allegedly beaten by a group of five to six unidentified males. The group fled after a good Samaritan intervened, but two of the perpetrators returned shortly thereafter and attacked Anzures again.

Anzures, who suffered severe head trauma, was rushed to Elmhurst Hospital, where he died a short time later.

Anyone with information regarding the assault or the suspects’ whereabouts is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS, visit their website or send a text message to 274637 (CRIMES), then enter TIP577. All calls and messages are kept confidential.
