A Taste of Rockaway Beach is coming to town on Saturday, Dec. 3, from noon to 6 p.m.

Rockaway Union, a not-for-profit organization comprised of businesses, organizations and residents of Rockaway Beach, hosts this biannual event in dedication to helping businesses succeed.

The Taste of Rockaway Beach offers food tasting from 17 local beach restaurants for a fixed price. Some of the local restaurants participating include 101 Deli, Beach Bistro 96, Bungalow Bar & Restaurant, Elegante, Uma’s, Uncle Louie G, Whit’s End, Chicks To Go and Community House.

Restauranteur Robert Kaskel said this is the seventh event of its kind and has been held biannually since Hurricane Sandy in October 2012.

“It started out as a thank-you to the community for staying strong and keeping the Rockaway community and spirit alive,” he said. “It’s following the same format that it has since it started: it runs from 12-6, you pay $15 in advance or $20 the day of and you get to taste the food from all the participating restaurants.”

The last Taste of Rockaway Beach, held in May, featured new aspects such as the grand opening of the indoor golf club, The Rockaway Beach Golf Club, and the debut of the Ship to Store Wine Shop. There were also many businesses sponsoring the event such as vintage clothing shop, Zingara Vintage, offering clothing discounts during the event.

Kaskel said the Taste of Rockaway event is, in his opinion, “one of the best values in NYC.”

“All of the restaurants are close to each other, so there’s a chance to walk around and see what Rockaway has to offer,” Kaskel said. “Besides the food, we’ll have entertainment like pop-up art galleries and live music in some of the restaurants.”

Tickets for the Taste of Rockaway Beach can be purchased for $15 now through Dec. 2 at each participating restaurant or online by visiting rockawayunion.org and picking up the ticket at Thai Rock. Tickets can be purchased for $20 on the day of the event at each participating restaurant.
