A local councilman is now making it easier for Jackson Heights residents to get a city identification card.
Councilman Daniel Dromm has opened up his office as an official location to apply for the IDNYC card through the end of the month.
“The ID is available to all New Yorkers regardless of gender identity, immigration status or homelessness and is a great way to show NYC pride,” Dromm said. “IDNYC grants cardholders access to many programs and services that would otherwise be inaccessible to them—such as renting an apartment, acquiring prescriptions drugs and picking up children from school. I urge all New Yorkers to apply for their ID today.”
Since he began the pop-up IDNYC enrollment site at his 37-32 75th Street office on Wednesday, about 50 people have been issued with cards. Dromm expects about 400 people to be signed up by the end of the initiative on January 30.
IDNYC cards are government issued photo IDs that are available to all city residents regardless of status. Cardholders also have access to many benefits including free admission to cultural institutions throughout the city, as well as discounts on fitness programs, health programs, entertainment, and more.
