It may have only been established six years ago, but Maspeth High School (MHS) has been named as one of New York’s best high schools, according to a report by U.S. News & World.
Out of 522 public high schools across the state, MHS ranked 163rd — and 1,877 in the entire nation — earning the high school a silver medal. Schools are ranked based on students’ performance on state-required tests and how well they prepare graduating students for college.
“Our school community is humbled to be recognized as one of the best high schools in the nation,” said Khurshid Abdul Mutakabbir, principal of MHS. “This honor is a testament to the dedication of our students, parents, faculty, staff, and administrators.”
According to the U.S. News & World report, a total of 974 students are enrolled at MHS, with 63 full-time teachers for a 15:1 student-to-teacher ratio. Students at MHS have the opportunity to take Advanced Placement (AP) courses and exams, and the AP participation rate at the school is 45 percent.
One of the most impressive stats about MHS is their 97 percent graduation rate.
MHS, located at 54-40 74th St., joins the ranks of two other prestigious Queens high schools, Townsend Harris High School in Flushing and Queens High School for the Sciences at York College in Jamaica — which were ranked seventh and eighth respectively in all of New York.
