How many of your friends can say that they’ve sipped craft brews in the company of a 150 pound Komodo dragon?

It doesn’t happen every day. You could say it’s as rare as spotting an Aldabra tortoise on the Van Wyck. In fact, it happened last year for the first time, at The Bronx Zoo, and it’s happening again, when Brew at the Zoo returns to the Bronx on Friday, June 16.

Last year’s event sold out but general admission tickets are still available – for now.

Flash back to childhood and see gelada baboons, southern white rhinos, grizzly bears, and others, beginning at 6pm. The animals retire for the evening by 7:30 – except for the sea lions, who will be out swimming all evening.

The best selling pilsner in New York City is the Coney Island Mermaid – try one while toasting a ring-tailed lemur! Or see why the craft brew nerds in Ridgewood are raving about the Hell or High Watermelon from San Francisco’s 21st Amendment Brewery.

With over 100 brews to choose from, you’re guaranteed to find some that will get you and your crew’s “seal of approval.”

Beers without a nosh? Absurd. Everyone raves about Luke’s Lobster crab roll, but we think the lobster grilled cheese is the go-to. Then for dessert, stuff your face with Dippin’ Dots – just don’t feed them to the animals.

New this year, Brew at the Zoo will feature live music and DJs. There’s also a retro game room (Pac-Man fans rejoice!); there will be karaoke (“The Lion Sleeps Tonight” and “Welcome to the Jungle” could be some great options to rock out to); and animal IQ bar trivia that will put your animal knowledge to the test.

Last call will be at 10:45 p.m. Before then, enjoy all the unlimited beer samplings, live entertainment, photo booth, and exhibit access.

The best thing about Brew at the Zoo? Net proceeds support the Wildlife Conservation Society, so you can drink beer while saving wildlife and their habitats around the globe.

VIP tickets are already sold out but all the fun above can be enjoyed with a general admission ticket. QNS readers can use promo code InsideTheZoo for $5 off the $69.99 general admission price by clicking here.
