An old wing of a Jackson Heights middle school will soon have air conditioned classrooms.

Last week, State Senator Jose Peralta (D-Jackson Heights) announced an allocation of $300,000 in state funds toward the installation of air conditioning for a section of I.S. 145 Joseph Pulitzer School, located 33-34 80th Street.

Peralta’s allocation comes a week after Mayor Bill de Blasio pledged that air conditioning would be installed in all New York City schools by 2022.

“Our schoolchildren deserve the best conditions, the best learning environment possible,” Peralta said. “Being in a classroom in hot weather days without a proper and functioning air conditioning system can affect students’ performance. It is vital that we provide students with a safe environment for them to reach their full potential, so I am honored that I was able to secure funding in this year’s State budget for this capital improvement project.”

Principal Ivan Rodriguez said air conditioning will help make the school more comfortable for students, particularly as the school year ends.
