The city’s war on virus-carrying mosquitoes marches on next week.
Starting at 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 29, Health Department trucks will be sent to spray parts of Auburndale, Bay Terrace, Beechhurst, College Point, Linden Hill, Malba, Murray Hill and Whitestone. The spraying will last until 6 a.m. the following morning.
If there is inclement weather, the spraying will be rescheduled to Wednesday, Aug. 30.
The spray zone will border by Flushing Bay to the West; East River to the North; Utopia Parkway, Cross Island Parkway, 149th Street, 25th Avenue, 163rd Street to the East; and 35th Avenue, College Point Boulevard, Flushing Creek to the South.
According to the Health Department, the areas listed below have an increase in West Nile virus activity as well as high numbers of Culex mosquitoes, which have been known to transmit West Nile virus. The trucks will be spraying very low concentrations of Anvil® 10+10. When used properly, it poses no significant risks to human health. However, the Health Department advises that you stay indoors during the spraying.
