Woman beaten, robbed in Astoria apartment building: NYPD

Police are looking for a man who beat an woman in Astoria Tuesday morning before stealing her purse, according to the NYPD. The suspect followed the victim into her apartment building near 31st Drive and 21st Street at around 7:30 a.m. and the elevator with her to the fifth floor where he placed the 35-year-old woman in a choke hold and repeatedly punched her in the face, police said. The suspect fled the location with the victim’s credit card, according to the NYPD.

The woman was taken to New York Presbyterian Hospital and treated for several bone fractures. Police have released a photo of the suspect, who is described as a black man between 25 and 30 years of age and 160 lbs. He was last seen wearing brown boots, blue jeans and a black shirt.
