Are you looking for ways to help those affected by Hurricane Harvey and Irma?
The Mets, along with Queens Borough President Melinda Katz, are hosting a Hurricane Relief Drive from Sept. 19 through Sept. 21 to collect donations for those in need.
Hurricane Harvey ripped through Houston, Texas and officials estimate that the death toll is 82 and could climb. Hurricane Irma, which devastated several Caribbean islands and tore through Florida, Georgia and South Carolina, is responsible for at least 62 deaths and that number may rise.
Donations will be accepted from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. in front of the Jackie Robinson Rotunda. Those driving to the ballpark can enter Official Lot G on 126th street and drive through the fire lane in front of the Rotunda. Mets staff will be located in the area to help unload items from vehicles.
The following items will be collected:
- Canned ready-to-eat items with pull tops: vegetables, fruit
- Protein in pouches or pull-top cans: tuna, beef stew, chili, canned chicken
- Peanut butter
- Snacks: granola bars, breakfast bars, etc.
- Water
- Toiletries: including soap, shampoo, toothbrushes, toothpaste, washcloths, feminine products, combs, picks, brushes
- Wipes
- Paper goods: toilet paper, paper towels, napkins
- Diapers (all sizes)
- Cleaning supplies: mops, mop buckets, brooms, bleach wipes, bleach, garbage bags, bug spray (only new items will be accepted)
The organization is asking that fans do not bring clothing, household items or any items that are not listed above.
All donations will be given to the Houston Food Bank and Mustard Seed, a community outreach organization in Florida.
