Jaws — The summer movie that started it all, this improbable, against-all-odds blockbuster about a Maine vacation spot terrorized by a great white shark, showed that director Steven Spielberg was a force to be reckoned with. Not only did he compose a technical masterpiece of Hitchcockian suspense by ingeniously working around an unwieldy rubber shark, he created an exhilarating film of existential horror that kept millions away from the beach.

Follow that Bird — Featuring a cast of Sesame Street regulars as well as a star-studded array of cameo guests, including Chevy Chase, John Candy, and Waylon Jennings, the movie follows Big Bird’s journey back to Sesame Street after a well-intentioned social worker places him within a family of birds, far away from his friends.

War of the Worlds — Loosely based on H.G. Wells’ science fiction classic, and heavily steeped in Spielbergian family values, War of the Worlds stars Tom Cruise as a divorced dock worker whose weekend visit with his children becomes a fight for their lives when Earth is invaded by alien fighting machines.

Enchanted Formosa — Presented in collaboration with Taipei Cultural Center of TECO in New York, Enchanted Formosa chronicles over 100 years of Taiwanese history, from the Qing imperial era to the Japanese colonial decades, and to the current republic.
