An eight-acre parcel of land located directly behind the city’s massive Hunters Point South development has gone on the market.
The sale of the lot, with an address of 55-01 2nd Street, is being handled by James Kuhn, president of the real estate brokerage firm Newmark Knight Frank, along with Jennifer Schwartzman and David Noonan, senior managing directors at the firm, according to the Post.
The triangular-shaped lot, which spans 326,000 square-feet, is bordered on the north by 54th Avenue and to the west by 2nd Street, and runs along a large stretch of the Newtown Creek waterfront to the south. The lot’s eastern parameter aligns with 5th Street one block away.
The site currently houses a 160,286 square-foot warehouse, whose tenants include City Harvest, the food donation distributor, and New Sensor, the wholesale electronics retailer.
Building records show that the owner of the lot had been the late H. Dieter Holterbosch, who founded Hans Holterbosch Inc., the U.S. importer of the German Lowenbrau beer. His daughter, Heidi Holterbosch, is also listed under recent building records for the site.
The property sits partly behind the Economic Development Corporation’s 30-acre Hunters Point South site, and is directly behind the ongoing phase two portion of the development, where two schools and 3,000 residential units will be built on four parcels.
The lot is designated under residential zoning, a district that allows for medium-density apartments with low building heights.
Newmark Knight Frank did not immediately respond to questions about the Long Island City site.
