A narrow two-way street in Maspeth that is accessed by numerous children, families and other residents on a daily basis is set to receive a pair of speed bumps to help calm the traffic in that area.
The New York City Department of Transportation (DOT) announced in a letter to Councilwoman Elizabeth Crowley that Community Board 5 (CB 5) has approved the community’s requests to place two speed bumps on 72nd Street between 53rd Road and Grand Avenue, right near the popular Maspeth Town Hall.
“Maspeth Town Hall operates after-school programs for local schools, hosts nighttime meetings and provides services to people of all ages throughout the community,” Crowley said. “It’s important we do all we can to ensure this is a safe space, both inside and outside, on the street.”
In the DOT’s Nov. 9 letter to Crowley, DOT Queens Borough Commissioner Nicole Garcia told the lawmaker that a speed bump will be installed at the location “when resources become available.”
