An 8-year-old girl was hit in the head by falling construction debris on Friday in Jackson Heights.
The girl was walking with her mother and 3-year-old brother around 9:30 a.m. when she was struck by a falling wooden plank, according to ABC News 7. Construction workers had been removing debris from a fourth floor fire escape at 83-09 35th Avenue, according to a Department of Buildings complaint.
Emergency responders rushed the child to a local hospital, where she was treated for a laceration to her head, police say.
The Department of Buildings issued a Full Stop Work Order for the property the same day, since the work was not part of approved plans. Electrical and plumbing work, including a minor interior renovation, had taken place without permits.
The owner of the property is listed as 83-09 35th Realty LLC.
An investigation is ongoing.
