Enjoy an afternoon of sledding in Middle Village before all the snow melts away

As quickly as the most recent nor’easter to hit Queens blanketed much of it with at least a foot of snow, the white stuff is turning into slush.

Warmer temperatures have moved into the area, and the melting has already started — but there’s still time for children to head for the hills and go sledding one more time this year.

The NYC Parks Department announced it’s holding a free sledding event at Juniper Valley Park in Middle Village this afternoon, Thursday, from 2:30 to 5 p.m. Children young and old can bring their sleds to the giant hill by the ballfields off the corner of 78th Street and Juniper Boulevard South.

If you don’t have a sled — or if you’ve already packed it away for the season — don’t worry: the Parks Department will lend you one to ride.

Of course, the Parks Department is offering more than just sledding this afternoon. Guests can take part in snowman-building and snow angel contests, and friendly snowball fights. There will also be music and free hot chocolate for everyone to enjoy.

The earlier you get to Juniper Valley Park, the better; the Parks Department advises that the event could end before 5 p.m. if snow conditions on the hill deteriorate.

If you’re at Juniper Valley Park sledding this afternoon, we want to see you having a safe, great time. Share your pictures of sledding, snowmen and snow angels at the park with us on Instagram (@qnsgram) with the hashtag #QNSsnowstorm.
