A man is in critical condition after being struck by a drunk driver on Northern Boulevard on Saturday.

The 46-year-old victim was hit by a Toyota minivan while crossing Northern Boulevard near 81st St. around 11:15 p.m. Police say that the victim was crossing the street from north to south outside of the sidewalk.

The victim was rushed to Elmhurst Hospital with severe head trauma. Police said Monday morning that the man is still in critical condition.

The driver, 26-year-old Jackson Heights resident Luis Orellana, was arrested at the scene. He was charged with vehicular assault, driving with a blood alcohol level above .08 of one percent, driving while intoxicated and driving while ability impaired.

Northern Boulevard has been the site of a number of crashes over the last few months. Carlos Gavilanes, 47, was killed near 100th St on May 21, and Giovanni Ampuero, 9, was killed neared 70th Street on April 30.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
