A Hollis man died on Saturday afternoon after crashing his cab into a traffic signal along Main Street in Flushing, it was reported.
Eight hours later, cops responded to another deadly, one-car collision — this time in Long Island City — which also claimed a driver’s life.
Police said that Nfn Pal, 62, of 201st Street was driving his green Ford Escape cab southbound along Main Street near 58th Avenue at 4:37 p.m. on Oct. 20 when he suddenly lost control of his vehicle. The New York Daily News reported that Pal had suffered some sort of medical crisis while behind the wheel.
Pal’s vehicle then jumped the curb and struck the signal post, authorities noted.
Officers from the 109th Precinct and EMS units responded to the scene. Paramedics rushed Pal to NewYork-Presbyterian Queens hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
No other injuries were reported, and the investigation is ongoing.
Then, at 12:57 a.m. on Oct. 21, police reported that an unidentified man behind the wheel of a Honda Civic heading westbound along Review Avenue in Long Island City lost control of his car and smashed into a telephone pole near the corner of Review Avenue and Van Dam Street.
According to WABC-TV, the vehicle had been moving at a high rate of speed, and the force of the collision caused the vehicle to be split in half.
Officers from the 108th Precinct and EMS units responded to the incident. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene; his identity was withheld, pending family notification.
No other injuries were reported. The NYPD Collision Investigation Squad is looking into the incident.
