A high school guidance counselor has been arrested after punching a police officer in the face at a Ridgewood high school Wednesday.
Philip Lo Castro, 37, struck the officer at Grover Cleveland High School at about 10:30 a.m. yesterday, after getting into a dispute with the cop for detaining an emotionally disturbed 19-year-old student.
The incident took place in the first-floor hallway after police were called out to the 2127 Himrod St. school after receiving a report about the troubled student.
When police arrived, Lo Castro intervened and told the disturbed student not to follow the officer’s commands. The guidance counselor then made derogatory comments before finally punching the officer in the face.
Lo Castro was charged with assault, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration.
