Starbucks on 37th Avenue was shut down by the Health Department Friday for a variety of reasons—including the presence of live roaches.
The Department of Health posted on its website today why the 78-25 37th Ave. coffee store has been temporarily shut down. The department said the cafe racked up 40 violations points during a Nov. 9 inspection and listed a number of hazards.
The complete list of violations are posted below with the first three being listed as “critical.”
1) Live roaches present in facility’s food and/or non-food areas.
2) Filth flies or food/refuse/sewage-associated (FRSA) flies present in facility’s food and/or non-food areas. Filth flies include house flies, little house flies, blow flies, bottle flies and flesh flies. Food/refuse/sewage-associated flies include fruit flies, drain flies and Phorid flies.
3) Food not protected from potential source of contamination during storage, preparation, transportation, display or service.
4) Facility not vermin proof. Harborage or conditions conducive to attracting vermin to the premises and/or allowing vermin to exist.
There is no word yet on when the branch will reopen.
