Cops are investigating a deadly crash in Long Island City early on Saturday morning in which two people riding a motorcycle down the wrong way of a one-way street collided with a van.
Law enforcement sources said the crash occurred at 3:35 a.m. on Nov. 10 in the area of 43rd Avenue and 38th Street.
According to information that police obtained, the two victims — Steven Goddard, 22, of 47th Avenue in Sunnyside and Amy Gutierrez, 20, of 49th Street in Woodside — were riding a 2018 Suzuki DRZ motorcycle westbound on 43rd Avenue, a one-way street for eastbound traffic. The motorcycle was apparently traveling at a high rate of speed.
Seconds later, authorities said, the motorcycle smashed into a red Ford E250 van, driven by a 27-year-old man, that was heading eastbound on 43rd Avenue. The driver stopped and remained at the scene.
Officers from the 108th Precinct and EMS units responded to a 911 call about the crash. Upon arriving at the scene, first responders found Goddard and Gutierrez lying on the street, unconscious and unresponsive, with severe body trauma.
Paramedics rushed both victims to Elmhurst Hospital Center, where they were pronounced dead.
The van’s driver, meanwhile, suffered minor injuries and refused medical attention.
No arrests have been made, and the NYPD Collision Investigation Squad is looking into the case.
