The death of a Maryland man who burglarized a Springfield Gardens home and was killed by the two brothers inside has been ruled a homicide, the NYPD announced Wednesday.
According to police, just before 2:45 a.m. on July 30, 26-year-old Shamel Shavuo, of Hagerstown, Maryland, banged on the door of a home on Williamson Avenue. Shavuo then proceeded to force his way into the home, where he was confronted by the two brothers, ages 16 and 27.
Police say that a fight ensued at the location, resulting in the brothers attacking Shavuo with a baseball bat and a knife. When officers arrived at the scene, having responded to a call about a burglary in process, they found with trauma to the head and a stab wound to the torso.
EMS responded to the location and transported Shavuo to Jamaica Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. On Dec. 5, police ruled that Shavuo’s death was a homicide.
No charges have been filed against the brothers at this time, and the investigation is ongoing.
