A fundraiser set up to help cover the burial costs of a Jackson Heights man who was shot and killed earlier this week has reached over $4,000.

Jeffrey Arroyo, 31, was shot in the chest on Monday at around noon near his 88th Street home and was rushed to Elmhurst Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

A day later, family and friends of Arroyo, a father of two, set up a GoFundMe page to help his mother cover the funeral expenses.

Over the course of two days, more than 50 people have donated as they aim to raise $10,000.

“We have lost a friend to many, a father to two beautiful kids, a son and a brother,” wrote Albert Munoz, the organizer of the GoFundMe. “We ask we come together to help his mother through this tough time and help with anything for burial cost and services.”

According to sources, a memorial has been set up across the street from Arroyo’s 37-14 88th Street home with candles and notes from those mourning his loss.

Police have arrested the alleged shooter, 49-year-old Nester Londono, with charges of manslaughter in the second degree, criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Police say drug involvement is suspected but the motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
