A car crashed into a pedestrian crossing Northern Boulevard on Friday night and the victim remains in critical condition.
The victim, a 50-year-old man, was hit while crossing Northern Boulevard at 87th Street at around 10:10 p.m. on Friday, police say.
The pedestrian was in the middle of the block, according to police, when a 2017 Toyota Prius, operated by a 45-year-old man, slammed into him.
EMS arrived on scene to find the victim lying on the street with severe head trauma. He was rushed to Elmhurst hospital in critical condition.
The driver remained on scene and was uninjured. No charges were immediately filed and the investigation remains ongoing.
This corridor has proven to be dangerous to pedestrians, and the city is undertaking a Vision Zero redesign of the stretch to help prevent roadway deaths.
