New York City Assemblyman Edward Braunstein announced Tuesday his 10th annual summer blood drive will take place on Aug. 11 from 1 to 7 p.m.
The event, organized in conjunction with the New York Blood Center (NYBC), will take place at 212-51 26th Ave. in the Bay Terrace Shopping Center.
“A single blood donation can save up to three lives,” Braunstein said. “I’m proud to sponsor this annual event with the New York Blood Center and I hope that you will take the time to donate this lifesaving gift by visiting our drive on Aug. 11.”
All donors will receive a limited edition New York Mets T-shirt for free. Additionally, they will be entered into sweepstakes to win a six-pack of Mets tickets, courtesy of the New York Blood Center.
Those who wish to donate blood at the event must meet a few requirements in order to be eligible. First, they must be at least 14 days symptom-free if they were recovering from COVID-19. Second, they are not allowed to donate if they tested positive for COVID-19 or experienced symptoms of it within 14 days of the event. Finally, people are not allowed to donate if they are under self-quarantine restrictions on the day of the event.
Founded in 1964, NYBC is one of the world’s most preeminent and comprehensive blood centers. The organization aims to provide the highest quality blood and stem cell products and related medical and consultative services to hospitals and patients, mainly in the greater New York metropolitan area. It also attempts to conduct the highest quality, novel and innovative research in the fields of hematology, blood banking and transfusion medicine and cellular therapies.
