The NYPD released surveillance video on Friday, Sept. 2, showing a young woman being violently mugged as she walked along a commercial strip in Jamaica Hills late last month.

Police from the 107th Precinct in Fresh Meadows reported that the 18-year-old woman was walking in front of the Cute Dental Care storefront located at 167-01 Hillside Ave. just after 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 30, when a man suddenly shoved her into a railing that knocked her to the sidewalk.

The suspect attempted to remove a necklace from around her neck but failed; he did, however, run off with her wallet across Hillside Avenue. The victim was not hospitalized as a result of the incident, but she sustained a laceration on her neck, police said.

The suspect wore a gray hooded sweatshirt, dark pants, dark sneakers and a black face covering.

Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS.
