NYC Health+Hospital/Queens hosted its annual Healthcare Heroes Appreciation Day event on Thursday, Oct. 6, recognizing employees for their hard work and dedication to provide the community with quality and compassionate care.

The event, entitled “We see you, we appreciate, we thank you,” provided the hospital’s employees with free meals from Famous Dave’s BBQ, free ice cream, a 360 photo booth courtesy of MetroPlus Health Plan, a live jazz band and a DJ.

Prior to the celebration, the hospital held a ceremony recognizing five employees, including three employees who went to great lengths to return over $4,000 to a patient after the money was misplaced/lost, and two nurse leaders who have gone above and beyond to the call of duty.

Each employee received a 2022 Healthcare Heroes Award that says, “True heroism is often remarkably sober and very undramatic. It is not the urge to surpass others at all cost, but the urge to serve others at whatever cost. Thank you for adhering to the values that guide our hospital’s actions, and for exemplifying what it truly means to be a hero.”

Cards were also distributed to patients letting them know that the hospital was celebrating Healthcare Heroes Appreciation Day and they could send employees well wishes by visiting nychealthandhospitals.org. Additionally, patients were invited to make a donation in support of the hospital’s Making Strides Queens Against Breast Cancer team and the hospital’s L.E.A.D. Summer Youth Program for children and adolescents with behavioral and/or emotional challenges.
