A New Jersey woman was arrested by officers from the 102nd Precinct in Richmond Hill and charged with drunk driving, vehicular assault and other crimes for a New Year’s Day crash on the Jackie Robinson Parkway in Glendale.

Vanessa Ramos, 28, of Summit Avenue in Jersey City was taken into custody at the Forest Park Drive exit of the Jackie Robinson Parkway Wednesday morning, Oct. 12, not far from the scene of the crash that occurred near Woodhaven Boulevard, an NYPD spokesman said, but he had no further details on the arrest.

Ramos was allegedly driving on the Jackie Robinson Parkway just after 7 a.m. on Jan. 1 when she lost control of a 2018 Hyundai SUV and crashed near Woodhaven Boulevard. Officers from the 102nd Precinct responded to a 911 call regarding a motor vehicle collision and found the SUV had collided with a tree. EMS responded and transported the three occupants of the vehicle to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center in serious condition.

An investigation by the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Squad determined the SUV was traveling westbound on the Jackie Robinson Parkway near Woodhaven Boulevard at a high rate of speed when Ramos allegedly failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway and struck a roadway sign affixed to a metal pole. The vehicle continued on and hit a tree on the front passenger side that caused it to rotate clockwise before it came to a rest, perpendicular to the flow of traffic, in the right lane of the parkway. A 27-year-old woman in the back seat suffered severe internal trauma to the lower torso.

Ramos was charged with vehicular assault, DWI, reckless driving and a speeding violation, police said. She is awaiting arraignment in Queens Criminal Court.
