The group Friends of Phil Rizzuto (Smokey) Park in South Richmond Hill is inviting the public to its first-ever Bunny Hop and Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 1.

The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with traditional games, prizes and bunny photos at Phil Rizzuto Park, located at 95th Avenue and 125th Street.

Elected officials such as Senator Addabbo, Assemblyman David Weprin, Councilwoman Lynn Schulman and Congressman Gregory Meeks are expected to attend to present citations to donors of the event.

With the large number of children between the ages of 3 to 11, the event will be an exciting new event the community can enjoy, according to Aleena Knight, a founding member of Friends of Phil Rizzuto (Smokey) Park.

“Our goal is to meet the needs of the community,” Knight said. “The Easter egg hunt is something that people in Central Park experience, and we want to bring that to our community and have people enjoy the park and being outdoors.”

Established in June 2022, Friends of Phil Rizzuto (Smokey) Park is a group of volunteers that aims to bring a better quality of life to the neighborhood.

As they continue to work on events for this year, the group thought of various ideas to start the spring season and the idea of an Easter egg hunt was born. There has never been an Easter egg hunt or a similar spring event in the park’s history that the group is aware of. The group looks forward to making the Easter egg hunt an annual affair.
