On April 25, parent volunteers and members of the school’s parent association built a Little Free Library at the main entrance of PS/IS102 to celebrate Earth Day.
This is the first Little Free Library location in the Elmhurst neighborhood and is accessible to the public 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Little Free Library is a nonprofit organization based in St. Paul, Minnesota, to support communities with free access to books and to encourage students to read. The library is donated by the PS/IS 102Q Parent Association and is supplied by Brooklyn BookBodega. Brooklyn BookBodega has provided books, bookmarks, education materials and worksheets.
“I hope our young learners can get lost in a delightful book, in a new universe and age. This effort is the Q102 Parent Association’s approach towards encouraging imagination, parent-child interaction, and plain ol’ reading,” said Ferdie Lee, President of the school’s Parent Association.
Little Free Library locations can be found all over Queens. For more information, go to https://littlefreelibrary.org/map/
