The show must — and will — go on. State Senator Joseph Addabbo announced the Arnie Mig Big Band Memorial Concert in Howard Beach has been rescheduled for Aug. 31 after it was canceled last week due to inclement weather.

The 12th annual summer swing concert will take place on Aug. 31, rain or shine, beginning at 7 p.m. at the St. Helen’s parking lot, located at the corner of 157th Avenue and 84th Street. Residents are encouraged to bring their own chairs and in case of rain, the concert will move indoors across the street to Fr. Dolley Hall. This year’s event will be presented in partnership with Assemblywoman Stacey Pheffer Amato, Brady & Bader law firm and QARI.

The concert’s namesake, Arnold “Mig” Migliaccio, was the leader of the Serenaders in Blue Orchestra that held the very first annual swing concert for the residents of Howard Beach nearly three decades ago where they performed Big Band-era jazz from the 1940s.

“It is an honor to continue to bring the Arnie Mig Memorial Big Band Concert to the Howard Beach community each year,” Addabbo said. “Arnie Mig was a staple in Howard Beach for decades, and he and his band entertained audiences of all ages with his music. I want to thank Assemblywoman Pheffer Amato and the Brady & Bader law firm for their continued partnership in bringing the concert back this year. I’m looking forward to seeing fans of live music there on Aug. 31.”

When the beloved musician died on June 7, 2009, Addabbo wanted to honor Migliaccio’s legacy and continue the tradition so he established the Arnie Mig Memorial Big Band Concert in 2009 that would allow the residents of Howard Beach to continue to enjoy the music that Migliaccio played for them.

“It is wonderful to continue this tradition with Senator Addabbo and bring a special concert to Howard Beach,” Pheffer Amato said. “Live music and dancing with our neighbors is a great way to spend the evening and truly makes this a fun event. I cannot wait to see you all there.”

The concert will feature swing music performed by Frank Pedulla leading the Music Staff Swing Orchestra. It will also feature comedian Rockin’ Randy.
