A convicted rapist from Brooklyn was arrested and charged last week for the 2022 fatal shooting of a Jamaica man who was gunned down while sitting in his car on Sutphin Boulevard.

Kenyon Nesbitt, 44, of Sutter Avenue in the Brownsville section of the borough, was booked on Dec. 20 at the 103rd Precinct in Jamaica on murder and weapons charges for the killing of 36-year-old Kenneth Murphy, of Waltham Street, during the early morning hours of Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2022.

Murphy was sitting in the front passenger seat of a Nissan Altima that was parked in front of 146-48 Sutphin Blvd. when he was shot in the head. Police from the 103rd Precinct responded to a 911 call of a shooting near Tuskegee Airman Way just before 3 a.m. and found Murphy slumped over in the seat. EMS responded to the crime scene and pronounced him dead at the location.

Nesbitt allegedly fled New York days after the fatal shooting and homicide detectives from the 103rd Precinct tracked him to a prison in Huntington, Pennsylvania where he was doing time on an unrelated crime, police said. Nesbitt was extradited back to Queens last week and charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon. His arraignment is pending in Queens Criminal Court.

Nesbitt is no stranger to law enforcement having been convicted of raping a woman at gunpoint in Brooklyn in 2002. He served a seven-year sentence and was placed on the New York State sex offender registry upon his release.
