Elmhurst native Patricia Mooney was named among the 2023 Irish Legal 100, which honors America’s most distinguished Irish legal professionals. As one of the honorees, Mooney was able to visit the Washington, D.C., residence of the Ambassador of Ireland to the United States, Geraldine Byrne Nason.

Mooney is a partner for Coffey Modica LLP, based at the firm’s office at 200 East Post Rd., Suite 210 in White Plains on Long Island. Her office focuses primarily on construction litigation, including high-exposure New York Labor Law matters, general and premises liability, medical malpractice and nursing home negligence cases.

“It is a great honor to be recognized as one of America’s forefront members of the bar and judiciary with proud Irish heritage,” Mooney said. “Every year, the Irish Legal 100 selects a truly standout group of honorees and I am delighted to stand among them in 2023.

Mooney has put together over 20 years of experience defending insurance companies and those insured by them. She has litigated cases in each borough of New York City, as well as Long Island, Westchester County and several venues in upstate New York, both in state and federal court.

Founded in 2008 by the New York City newspaper The Irish Voice, the Irish Legal 100 honors Irish Americans who share the common bond of pride in their Irish roots. Corporate, major firm and entrepreneur attorneys, as well as lawyers in the judiciary branches and law schools are all included in the list. Each October, the honorees of the Irish Legal 100 for the year are invited to a celebration at the Washington D.C. residence of the Ambassador of Ireland to the United States.

After being born in the Bronx, Mooney grew up in Elmhurst, attending Our Lady of Victory Elementary School in Floral Park. She and her family would later temporarily relocate to Ireland. After returning to the United States, Mooney would pursue an education in law, graduating from the Pace University Law School.

Today, she resides in Pleasantville, located in Westchester County. She also owns a family home in County Clare, Ireland that has been in her family for over 300 years.
