A Queens state Senator is asking the public for food and personal items that will be donated to a Glendale food pantry that is operated by Sacred Heart Parish Ministries.

State Sen. Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr is accepting food donations and personal care items at his offices on 84-16 Jamaica Ave. and in Middle Village at 66-85 73rd Pl.

Addabbo said that after the holidays, the shelves of local charitable pantries are nearly empty, and that no donation is too small.

“By coming together to support this cause, we can make a positive impact and foster a sense of unity and compassion within our community. I encourage everyone to join me in contributing to this important cause, as together, we can make a difference in the lives of those who need it most,” he said.

The Sacred Heart Church in Glendale has a food pantry that is open to all residents in need, whether they are in need of food or personal hygiene products.  The pantry is open four days a week and is located at 83-17 78th Ave.

Addabbo said that personal care items are often overlooked when it comes to food drives. However, he said such donations would be greatly appreciated by the pantry since many people struggle to afford them.

Suggested personal care and cleaning items include hand soap, dish liquid, laundry detergent, shampoo/conditioner, toilet paper, paper towels, facial tissues, deodorant, toothpaste and toothbrushes.

Food donations sought include flour, sugar vegetable oil, shelf stable milk, pasta noodles, pasta sauce, peanut butter, jelly, tuna fish and canned salmon, mayonnaise, canned soup, white rice, canned meats like chicken, spam or ham, coffee/tea and cereal.

Donations are welcome starting Jan. 22.
