Tesla has bought a 40,037-square-foot parking lot in Maspeth for $18 million for the purpose of developing a new charging station for electric vehicles.
The lot, located at 48-26 54th Rd., was initially reached on Monday, Aug. 16, according to city records. Tesla’s charging business director, Max de Zegher, signed the deal on Monday, Aug. 26. The fact that de Zegher was the signee for Tesla was the biggest indicator that the company intends to convert the lot into a charging station.
This deal was reached with real estate developer Adam Gordon’s firm, Wildflower Ltd. The property was part of a city block bought for $23.3 million by the firm in February 2020 as part of a single tax lot under the address of 54-20 50th St., according to PincusCo.
Tesla’s purchase of the Maspeth lot comes four months after the car manufacturing company announced plans to lay off 14,000 employees from its global workforce of 140,000 workers.
