Queens now has a new and unexpected destination for rooftop drinks with skyline views—Cityview Rooftop Lounge in College Point.

It officially opened to the public on Thursday afternoon, marking the end of a successful soft opening over the summer. The owners and locals celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and the release of a dozen white doves on the rooftop.

Surprising even its owner, the waterfront neighborhood of College Point offers sweeping views of the city. While not traditionally known for nightlife or rooftop venues, the area is now embracing a new chapter with this exciting addition.

“I had no idea these views existed here,” said owner Joseph Cutolo, highlighting that his space is unique for eastern Queens. “Other spots here have rooftops but not these views.”

The new space sits above Hotel de Point, which also shares a parking lot with a karaoke bar and Asian buffet restaurant. Despite the quiet residential area, the hotel is popular for its proximity to Citi Field and Arthur Ashe Stadium, where the U.S. Open is currently underway.

Cutolo took over the previously empty space in May and redesigned it with modern city-esque decor. With over 30 years of experience in the food business, he also crafted a comprehensive bar menu focused on top-shelf cocktails and small bites such as truffle fries, sweet chili wings, and a few charcuterie boards. He also established a breakfast contact with the hotel, which has helped with startup costs.

Although the rooftop lounge has been open for a couple of months now, Cutolo wanted to ensure the bartenders were fully trained before loudly promoting the new space. However, he began to schedule live music on Friday and Saturday nights, which has been popular with those who have already discovered it through social media.

“I’m just thrilled to death to see something as beautiful as this in College Point,” Council Member Vickie Paladino expressed at the grand opening. “I’ve lived here forever, and  I’m very enthusiastic to see something like this here. I think this will draw a very big crowd.”

She added that the region particularly needs an economic boost, and a popular new venue inviting both locals and visitors from other neighborhoods and boroughs will help. “The view is screaming, come and see me.”

The rooftop is smoking-friendly, particularly for cigar smokers, to complement the vast whiskey selection. It’s one of the many ways Cutolo hopes to appeal to a more mature crowd. Another is the after-work happy hour from 3:30 to 7 p.m. on weekdays, offering $6 beers and 25% off cocktails.

The owner is already exploring options to keep the outdoor area operational in the winter, especially for events such as weddings and showers. But when the colder months roll around, the venue has plenty of seating inside to cozy up with a cocktail without missing any of the views.

“Build it, and they will come,” added Paladino. “But we’ve got to let them know it’s here.”
