Suspect sought for subjecting an E train rider to public lewdness in Richmond Hill: NYPD

Police from the 102nd Precinct in Richmond Hill and Transit District 20 are looking for a young man who subjected an E train rider to an act of public lewdness on the night of Sunday, Oct. 20.

The 20-year-old woman was riding a southbound E train at around 10:20 p.m. approaching the Jamaica–Van Wyck station on the border of Kew Gardens and Richmond Hill when the suspect sat across from her and exposed himself, then pleasured himself without making any physical contact with the woman, police said Wednesday. The victim ran off the train and was not injured during the encounter. The perpetrator remained on the southbound E train and remains at large.

The NYPD released surveillance images of the suspect on Wednesday and described him as having a dark complexion, approximately 22 years old, 5’5” tall, and dark dreadlocks. He wore a plaid multi-colored jacket, blue jeans, and beige and gray clog-style shoes.

Through Oct. 20, the 102nd Precinct has reported 42 sex crimes so far in 2024, five fewer than the 47 reported at the same point last year, a decline of 10.6%, according to the most recent CompStat report. Transit crimes are also down in the precinct with seven reported so far this year, three fewer than the ten reported at the same point in 2023, a decrease of 30%, according to CompStat.
