Hundreds of families on the Rockaway Peninsula enjoyed a brighter holiday season this year, thanks to the St. John’s ICARE Foundation’s annual Community Toy Giveaway.
The event, held on Dec. 20 at the Bayswater Jewish Community Center, turned the venue into a winter wonderland. Families received age-appropriate bags of toys, while children enjoyed freshly popped popcorn, chocolate treats from Kiwanis of the Rockaways volunteers, and photos with Santa Claus. Entertainment included music by DJ Peter Vibe, dancing, and a raffle featuring an oversized teddy bear donated by Lowe’s Companies.
“We’re truly grateful for all the community partners, donors, and volunteers who made our annual community toy giveaway a reality,” said Nancy Leghart, Executive Director of the St. John’s ICARE Foundation. “There’s nothing better than spreading joy to families in our community and ensuring every child had a gift this holiday season.”
Beyond the festivities, Episcopal Health Services’ Population Health team offered free blood pressure screenings and vaccinations. Healthfirst and the Beacon Rehab & Nursing Center provided health-related resources, further supporting the event’s community-focused mission.
The toy giveaway was made possible through the generosity of numerous donors and sponsors, including Spin Master, Lowe’s Companies, Healthfirst, National Grid, CINQCARE, and the Beacon Rehab & Nursing Center.
