Assembly Member Steven Raga hosted his second annual Thanksgiving turkey giveaway in Maspeth, offering free turkeys to local residents for the holiday.
The event, held in partnership with several organizations and volunteers, was open to residents of the 30th Assembly District in Queens.
Raga expressed his gratitude to the partners and volunteers who helped make the event possible, “I hope everyone had an amazing Thanksgiving filled with food and gratitude for your loved ones. Big shoutout to our incredible AD30 community for the energy and care for one another. Thankful to everyone who made this possible!”
The giveaway was co-sponsored by Asian Americans for Equality (AAFE), a nonprofit that works to advance racial, social, and economic justice for Asian Americans and other communities. Other sponsors included Queens Center Mall, Brothers Helping Charitable Foundation, MetroPlus Health, and the Philippine Nurses Association of New York (PNANY).
PNANY advocates for the rights of Filipino-American nurses, addressing issues such as nursing practices and immigration. The nonprofit also provides educational programs and community outreach. Meanwhile, the Brothers Helping Charitable Foundation focuses on bringing compassion to vulnerable and disadvantaged communities by pooling resources to support those in need.
Raga’s office is also hosting a Sock and Toy Donation Drive in collaboration with The Solution to Hunger. The drive, which runs through Dec. 16, encourages residents to drop off new socks and toys at Raga’s District Office at 55-19 69th St. in Maspeth, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Solution to Hunger aims to end hunger in America by redistributing excess food and providing essential items like socks and toiletries to those in need. According to their website, they have served over 3 million meals and collected more than 300,000 items of clothing and toiletries. The nonprofit works with numerous partners, including catering companies, grocery stores, schools, and restaurants.
Raga is reaching out to anyone who wants to donate from his district, which covers Woodside, Elmhurst, Maspeth, Jackson Heights, Astoria, and Middle Village.
