The Luminosa exhibit at the Queens Botanical Garden has been enchanting Flushing with its dazzling light displays and intricate designs since opening late last year.
The exhibit, which runs through March 23, features over 40 stunning lamp creations crafted from steel and silk by 150 artisans. Visitors can marvel at everything from vibrant roses and butterflies to cherry blossom trees, exotic animals, and a shimmering dragon in celebration of the Lunar New Year.
As the days grow longer, the event’s 5:30 p.m. start time offers the perfect opportunity to arrive while the last rays of the setting sun provide a beautiful backdrop to the garden. Parking is available on-site for a fee, but for those willing to take a short walk, there are additional parking options throughout the surrounding neighborhood.
Once guests arrive and have their ticket scanned, they can begin their illuminated journey through a bright purple awning featuring a unicorn and flowers, amongst other intricately made designs. A small insulated bubble with a vendor inside selling hot, freshly made popcorn and some souvenirs is also available to purchase.
The exhibit can be explored in as little as 40 minutes, but to fully appreciate the intricate designs and details, it’s best to take your time. Given the chilly weather, it’s a good idea to grab a hot drink before you go, allowing you to relax and enjoy the exhibit at a leisurely pace.
As guests follow the path, the exhibit saves the best displays for further along in the experience. Some of the truly gorgeous must-see displays include a garden of colorful flowers and butterflies, a cherry blossom tree with music and hummingbirds, and an enormous display of a goddess whose eyes open and close, along with animals and music playing. The last half of the exhibit pays tribute to the Lunar New Year. It has an outstanding display of all the Chinese New Year signs, a gorgeous garden with music playing, and the grand finale- an enormous dragon, ornate with sparkling and shimmering decor to make it stand out in the midst of the evening.
The exhibit is a great idea for a weeknight or weekend event, and with many delicious restaurants in the area, it’s perfect for a family night or a fun night out with loved ones.
The tickets for the exhibit are $25.90 for adults, $17.90 for children ages 4-12, and seniors ages 65 and up as well as students and military cost $21.90. For more information and to purchase tickets, click here.
