Council Member Sandra Ung joined community and healthcare leaders to celebrate the grand opening of Elderplan/HomeFirst’s first-ever community office on Friday, Feb. 7.
This new resource, located at 36-59 Main St. in Flushing, marks an important milestone for Elderplan/HomeFirst, a healthcare agency that provides quality care to older adults and adults with disabilities.
The new community office will serve as a hub for Elderplan members, providing them with valuable information and support about their health plan coverage and benefits. The office will also offer opportunities for residents to participate in health and wellness activities, making it a vital resource for both current and prospective beneficiaries.
“I am proud to be part of the opening of Elderplan/HomeFirst’s new community office here in Flushing,” said Ung. “This is more than just a convenience; it’s about equity and ensuring that older adults and individuals with disabilities in our community have the resources and support they need to lead healthy, dignified lives.”
The grand opening event featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony with Council Member Ung, Burton Esrig, Chair of the Elderplan/HomeFirst Board of Directors, and David Wagner, President and CEO of MJHS Health System and President of Elderplan/HomeFirst, among others. Following the ribbon-cutting, attendees gathered for a reception to celebrate the new office.
Elderplan/HomeFirst, a participating agency of the MJHS Health System, has a long history of providing high-quality healthcare to those who need it most. Founded in 1985, Elderplan was one of the first Medicare Social HMO demonstration projects in the United States. The organization offers a range of health plans, including Medicare Advantage and dual Medicare and Medicaid plans, special needs plans for nursing home-certifiable members, and managed long-term care services through HomeFirst, which has been operating since 2001.
The new office will provide a critical point of contact for community members seeking to learn more about the organization’s health plans, participate in wellness activities, or enroll in a plan.
The opening of the office in Flushing comes as Elderplan/HomeFirst celebrates 40 years of service to New Yorkers. The organization serves beneficiaries in New York City, and across Nassau, Westchester, Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess, Orange, Sullivan, Ulster, and Monroe counties.
