Travelers flying to Alaska and Hawaii from John F. Kennedy International Airport can now enjoy more streamlined connections and upgraded amenities, as Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines begin relocating their operations to Terminal 8 (T8), American Airlines announced on Tuesday, April 22.

The move will allow for easier connections between American Airlines and its oneworld partners, improving convenience for passengers traveling to and from the two non-continental U.S. states. Hawaiian Airlines has already launched its daily flight from JFK to Honolulu (HNL) from Terminal 8. Both Alaska and Hawaiian are expected to complete their full transition to T8 by October.

With the addition of Alaska Airlines, Terminal 8 will now serve 10 oneworld carriers, making it a growing hub for international and domestic travelers alike.

Passengers flying to Alaska and Hawaii can expect an enhanced travel experience, including access to expanded lounges, and new shopping and dining options that are part of Terminal 8’s ongoing $125 million commercial redevelopment. The project is led by American Airlines, in collaboration with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) and Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield (URW) Airports.

First-class passengers on Alaska and Hawaiian flights will have access to American’s Admirals Club, while those flying in premium cabins on routes over 2,000 miles with lie-flat seats will be eligible to use the Greenwich Lounge.

“We continue to invest in JFK to enhance the travel experience for our customers and those of our partners like Alaska and Hawaiian,” said Amanda Zhang, American’s vice president of corporate real estate. “We’re making progress on the redesign and expansion of the T8 concessions program, bringing new shops and restaurant options for customers to enjoy.”

Shane Jones, senior vice president of fleet, revenue products, and real estate at Alaska Airlines, said the new lease agreement and relocation reflect a strategic step forward.

“The new long-term lease at Terminal 8 and our resulting move strengthen our commitment to enhancing the guest experience, improving employee spaces, and driving better economic outcomes for our JFK operation,” he said. “After two years of thoughtful evaluation, we’re excited to be closer to American and other global partners to better serve guests.”

The Terminal 8 redevelopment includes the creation of a new Great Hall and more than 60 new shops and restaurants, with an emphasis on working with local businesses to showcase New York and generate economic opportunities for the region.
