Queens Theatre’s beloved Latin Culture & Dance Fiesta returns from Friday, May 2, to Sunday, May 4, offering a lively weekend filled with Latin American music, dance, and culture.
This year’s celebration features a lineup of performances, including the acclaimed Argentinian folk band CEIBO, the award-winning musical Señor Bolero, and a Spanish-language screening of “The Emperor’s New Clothes” and “Rumpelstiltskin.”
Festival curator and Queens Theatre front-house manager Will Mosquera told QNS the event provides an opportunity for people of all backgrounds to experience and celebrate Latin American culture.
“Audience members can expect a unique folk music performance from CEIBO,” Mosquera said. “It’s a mixture of Indigenous and European [sounds]. That’s what makes the folkloric sound. They use a lot of acoustic instruments, and they sing in a four-part harmony.”
“They have amazing, amazing voices and beautiful lyrics. People who are lovers of world music or Argentinian folk music will definitely love this,” he added.
Mosquera also expressed excitement about Señor Bolero, which will be performed in both Spanish and English to reach a wider audience. “This is a great cast. We have eight fabulous actors, and they’re going to be singing traditional Bolero music,” he said.
Originally launched in 2016 as the Latin Dance Fiesta, the event has since evolved into a broader cultural experience, now known as the Latin Culture & Dance Fiesta. In addition to dance, it features a range of live performances and family-friendly programming.
Organizers have expanded the celebration to showcase various artistic forms, including theater, concerts, and children’s events.
The Latin Culture & Dance Fiesta is funded, in part, by the Howard Gilman Foundation, the Lily Auchincloss Foundation, the National Endowment of the Arts, the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs, The Shubert Foundation, the Jerome Robbins Foundation, and by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.
Tickets for the Latin Dance & Culture Festival begin at $17, with discounts for senior citizens and students. To purchase, visit QueensTheatre.org. Queens Theatre is located at Flushing Meadows Corona Park, 14 United Nations Ave S in Corona.
