Summer has brought many wonderful events. MacNeil Park, 5th Avenue and College Place, hosted The Roadsters Band on Sunday night. The Park also hosted the children’s program, “Clowning Around” by the Goofs. More than 200 children watched the program, some from College Point and many from the Creative Arts Summer Camp. Many joined in the program with the clowns and everyone had a fun time.
Happy 10th Anniversary to the Times-Ledger and to Steve Blank, Publisher. I also have a 10th Anniversary with the Times-Ledger. That seems to be the magic anniversary number this year.
Happy Birthday to Norman Hanlon, and to Georgette Dusch.

“Be a Clown” workshop — “Clowning Around With The Seasons.” Laine Barton, who has performed with the Big Apple Circus, will teach the children how to do juggling, mime and how to make the audience laugh, all the while having fun themselves. Summer Day Camp at St. Fidelis: Kids program includes sports, games, arts and crafts and spectacular trips for children ages 3-14, camp hours 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. up to Aug. 24. Limited space available. Call 386-1962.
Summer Day Camp is also available at St. Paul’s Episcopal School — creative arts & crafts, picnics, private pool, field trips, sports, science and computer club and tutoring in language arts and math twice a week. There are positions available for the USTA for youngsters who are interested in working in the press room. These youngsters must be available from Aug. 20 through Sept. 9. If you know of anyone interested, have them contact the Community Board 7 office: 359-2800.
MacNeil Park has had the volunteer park cleanups. The third one was Friday July 13. It is important — during the summer, especially — that all your refuse and food containers are put into the pails. If you bring dogs to the park, remember you must pick up after them. It is important that you and everyone who visits the park be proud of its condition. Leo Nicholas and I have arranged for some volunteers to keep the park in good order. If you would like to be included in a future clean-up, please let Leo or me know. We would love to include you.
Leo Nicholas also painted over graffiti and it will be kept under watch to make sure that it stays clean.
At Holy Cross High School’s annual academic awards ceremony, 63 men were honored. The students at the Flushing School received certificates and medals in recognition of academic excellence. One of the students honored, Joseph, received the Brother Andre Bessett CSC Award. Principal Giannuzzi Joseph was extremely proud of his group.
