Queens Salaries Rank In Top 30

Queens employees earn an average yearly salary of just over $36,000, putting them in the top 30 counties in the U.S. with the most businesses.
Queens is the home to more than 39,000 businesses with over 470,000 employees, ranking the county 26th in the nation for the highest number of businesses, according to 2003 census data released last week.
“I would say that the figures for 2003 are an improvement over the previous years, the first steps in an emerging growth cycle,” said William Egan, executive vice president of the Queens Chamber of Commerce.
Also, the number of businesses located in Queens has also increased by nearly 3,000 during that time.
Manhattan business employees earned the highest average salary, $73,000 per year.
Among the six New York counties ranked in the top 30, Queens was the only one to see average salaries increase by more than $3,000 since 2000. Conversely, Manhattan was the only New York county to see salaries drop during that span.
“The atmosphere, the location and the quality of people that reside in the borough make it very amenable to starting or growing a business,” said Spencer Ferdinand, Executive Director for the Queens Economic Development Corporation.
