Victoria’s Secrets-We’ll Miss You Brian

It was a surprise to learn that Assemblyman Brian McLaughlin had decided not to run for re-election while taking on his labor leadership position full time. He served the borough well.
In the meantime, it will be interesting to see the jockeying for his seat in the Assembly. How about Joe Dorsa, whose mom is a district leader and father a judge, or Moshed Alam who ran against State Senator Padavan?

A GREAT PRE-NEW YEAR’S PARTY
There she was — Councilwoman Christine Quinn — at Gloria D’Amico’s annual New Year’s Party. It was only December 29, but everyone of the “shakers and makers” at the party couldn’t help but take notice how Democratic party leader Tom Manton had been spending a lot of time talking to the prospective new leader of the City Council. At the party I asked tom if it was a good bet Ms. Quinn would be the winner in a hotly contested race for the top seat in the City Council. His response made me feel I could put money on it! In fact, a few days later it was announced Quinn was the winner, and Queens helped make it happen.

hospital whisper
If I were a betting woman, I wouldn’t be surprised to see a new name hung over the sign at Mary Immaculate Hospital in Jamaica. My sources tell me that a major Manhattan hospital center, north of 125th Street, has reached a deal in principal, beating out other bidders from the city and Long Island, to take over the financially troubled community hospital center.

A EUROPEAN SPA OPENS IN BAYSIDE
It was wonderful to get away and relax in the Virgin Islands, but I found a great escape right here in Bayside.
Sometimes getting away and restoring my energies just takes a few hours.
Well, at a new spa, Beautiful, just one flight up next door to the popular pub Donovan’s, I was treated to a two-hour getaway.
The quiet, relaxed environment of the spa is the creation of two talented European-trained women. Their motto is “beautiful skin, beautiful you.” Lina and Marina believe their mantra begins at your head and ends at your toes.
I was game for my first exposure to their Shimmering Cellulite Treatment. It is a three-in-one therapy including a body scrub to rid you of dead cells and polish your skin. Then I had an amazing Vichy shower — in a warm, darkened room, “mud” was rubbed all over my body, then sprays of water washed it all away. This was followed by being wrapped in a heated blanket. I fell asleep to the soft music and warm cocoon that the therapists had wrapped me in. From this experience, they led me to the massage room. There they rubbed contouring creams into my body with a deep tissue massage by both therapists, one working my feet and lower body, the other my upper body and neck. I felt like I was floating!
At this small, intimate spa there is a room for two — a perfect Romantic Escape for Two. They offer a chocolate cake body scrub and a chocolate cake aromatherapy massage. What a great idea.
There is a package for small groups for a bridal shower or parties for friends to share in a day or half-day of luxury treatments.
Lina said she’ll serve the group refreshments and create packages to suit each client’s wishes. The partners are also offering hair and make-up parties. Unique French skin care products are all used for the European therapies.
Treat yourself to a brief and relaxing interlude during a luxuriant and restorative flight of fancy. It made me feel like I was away for days. Call Beautiful at 718-631-8800.
