Food ratings site you should use

“Eat at your own risk” need not apply anymore, thanks to a new website that allows patrons to view the most recent health inspections of their favorite eateries.
The site, re-launched by the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH), features a searchable database of restaurant inspection information (done either by restaurant name or zip code), as well as a glossary of terms.
Information can also be sorted alphabetically and by borough, neighborhood, inspection scores, and by those that have received the Golden Apple Award — a sign of excellence — from the DOHMH.
“New York City has the best restaurants in the world,” said DOHMH Commissioner Dr. Thomas R. Frieden. “Many of our restaurants are remarkably safe, including an increasing number of Golden Apple awardees. With a new and improved restaurant inspection website, New Yorkers can be better informed about the places where they eat.”
More than 7 million Web surfers visited a prior version of the site last year. Officials are expecting even more hits on the new site.
Golden Apple awardees in Queens are Okrusek Polish Bakery, 60-45 Maspeth Avenue; Caffe Italia, 12-40A Clintonville Street; Altadonna Restaurant, 249-30 Horace Harding Expressway; Dunkin’ Donuts, 153-67
Horace Harding Expressway; Winchesters Pub, 233-12 Hillside Avenue; and Russo’s On The Bay, 162-45 Cross Bay Boulevard.
According to DOHMH officials, each restaurant will be inspected annually for food storage practices, including processing and temperature control.
“New York City restaurant-goers will be delighted with this new resource,” said Tim Zagat, co-founder of the Zagat Survey. “The site is easy to use and a great way to make sure the dining public is well informed about the safety of the restaurants they visit. In a city of great restaurants, a handy guide for restaurant food safety is essential.”
