Free legal advice in Flushing

Looking to help those in the community who do not know their legal rights, Assemblyman Jimmy Meng obtained a $5,000 grant from the state and teamed with The City University of New York Law School’s Community Legal Resource Network (CLRN) to start up the Community Legal Resources Network, which will offer free legal advice to all Flushing residents.
Since so many constituents have come to Assemblyman Meng’s office with legal issues, he decided to reach out. “Most immigrants come to this country feeling disempowered,” Assemblyman Meng said. “This program lets people know about the legal process and provides them with knowledge about their current legal issues.”
This is not the first program of its type to be established in Queens.
CUNY’s Community Legal Resource Network has also teamed with the other elected officials, such as City Councilman David Weprin and Senator Serphin Maltese, to bring similar programs to their districts. Juliette Chinaud will be the attorney providing 30-minute consultations. Afterwards, she may be able to refer these constituents to reduced rate attorneys.
The program will run for the next few months on Tuesdays from 6:15 – 8:15 p.m. at 135-29 Roosevelt Avenue, Flushing, on the third floor.
Consultations are done on a first-come, first-serve basis and only by appointment.
