Two more graffiti vandals caught

Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown announced the apprehension of “Kaspo” and “Toon 84,” two graffiti vandals, who were charged with defacing storefronts in Woodside.
Peter “Kaspo” Kokolis, 18, of 25-58 50th Street in Maspeth, and Kevin “Toon 84” Varela, 20, of 40-70 Hampton Street in Jackson Heights each face terms in prison.
Kokolis was charged in two separate incidents, with criminal mischief and two counts of making graffiti, and faces up to four years behind bars. Varela was charged with criminal mischief and one count of making graffiti. He faces a year in prison.
In the last two months, Kokolis allegedly tagged Mauzone’s Catering and Stone Boss, both located in Borough Place. Varela allegedly spray-painted his tag on Stone Boss’s storefront on April 1.
Both defendants were arraigned in Queens Criminal Court and will appear again in May.
“Graffiti is a symptom of crime and negatively affects the quality of life of all citizens through decreased property values, increased taxes and a financial burden on affected businesses and homes,” said Queens District Attorney Richard Brown.
“City officials and anti-graffiti activists have done a remarkable job over the years in cleaning up New York City’s image as a graffiti-scarred city. We cannot allow vandals to mar the beauty of our City and return us to the days when our transit system and our highways and buildings were covered with graffiti,” Brown said.
