Cowbird Triangle renamed for WW II Maspeth hero

Shortly before Queens honored its fallen heroes and living veterans at several Memorial Day parades, the United Veterans and Fraternal Organizations of Maspeth renamed Cowbird Triangle at the intersection of Borden Avenue, Jay Avenue and Hamilton Place for Technical Sgt. Thomas J. Davey - a World War II hero from Maspeth.
Davey received both the Bronze Star and Silver Star posthumously after he was killed in action in France in 1945. Davey’s sister, Florence Albrecht, was a driving force for having the triangle named in his honor before she passed away.
“Florence sought for many years to honor her brother, Thomas, with the naming of a piece of Maspeth in his honor to record for future generations the sacrifice that he made for his community and country,” said Assemblywoman Markey. “I am proud to have been able to help make her vision come to fruition.”
At the ceremony, Markey presented the Albrecht family with the New York State Conspicuous Service Cross and Award for Sgt. Davey followed by the unveiling of the park’s new signs and Sgt. Davey’s nephew, Edward Albrecht, delivering remarks about his uncle.
