Our Reporter Gets Her Story Straight

Just wanted Tonia N. Cimino to know how pleased we are with her Queens Courier article on Language Line Services.
You had all the details correct and the fact that you tried the service yourself lent so much credibility to the story.
Thanks again and please let me know if you ever plan to do a story about immigration, multilingual communities, patient’s rights, or the need to serve limited English speaking people by government agencies, non-profit organizations, or commercial companies.

Volunteers And Proud Of It!
I was pleasantly surprised to learn since 9-11 volunteerism has risen to 65 million people, which is a good thing. I am proud to report that my husband, Alfred, 93 years young and myself, 84, are two of them.
Volunteers - young and old
Ongoing through the years
Love and devotion
Until the end of time
Nights we stay awake
To conjure up ideas
Energy - and
Elation
Right to make a difference

It is so rewarding to put a smile on someone's face. If you can balance your workload and daily chores, you will be able to find a few hours during the week to lend a helping hand.
Perhaps a senior needed someone to help with food marketing. You could help someone in a nursing home in your neighborhood that has to be fed or taken outdoors for a change in scenery. You can tutor a child in school or help an adult to read and write. You can become a member of R.S.V.P. (Retired Senior Volunteer Person).
Make time, because the rewards are wonderful.

Short But To The Point
Citizens, show some spine. Demand legislation for:
A ban on flag burning.
Making English the nations' official language.
Take your country back - before it is too late!

Save Your Trash & Fly More Flags
Very few flags were visible in the Cunningham, Fresh Meadows area this past 4th of July, but the mountains of garbage put out in front of many homes when there is no pick-up on any legal holiday did not make for a pretty sight.
Sanitation should enforce the laws as to dates and time for garbage collection.
It would have been a welcome sight to see colorful flags flying from homes during the local parades.
Flags can actually be purchased for less than the garbage cans that were prominently displayed instead and it would add to the festive celebration in one's community. Owning a home or renting is one's privilege. Absentee property owners and gardeners should be held responsible for knowing the garbage collection days and not putting trash out on holidays.
There is a proper time and day for garbage collection.
